Chancellor Announces Cut on VAT and Vouchers

Rishi Sunak has cut VAT from 20% to 5% on food and launched a voucher initiative to encourage people to eat out in August.

Mark Staples, BGA Commercial Director says;
This is great news for hospitality, and will hopefully provide a boost for all our BGA-registered pubs, restaurants and hotels. It also comes at just the right time to strengthen the hospitality sector’s demand for Assured Game, as the season gets underway in August. Let’s all Eat Out to Help Out suppliers of game!
The Chancellor said restaurants would be able to offer half-price meals every Monday to Wednesday throughout August, and be reimbursed by the Government within five working days. On Wednesday, 8th July 2020 the Chancellor announced;
“We’re reducing VAT to 5% for goods and services supplied by the tourism and hospitality sectors. This is a £4bn catalyst benefiting more than 150,000 businesses and consumers everywhere – all helping to protect 2.4 million jobs. To support restaurants and the people who work in them, we’re saying ‘Eat Out To Help Out’. For the month of August we’ll give you a 50% reduction, up to £10 per head, on sit-down meals and non-alcoholic drinks, Monday to Wednesday.”
The BGA would like to encourage everyone to support their local restaurants and pubs to get through this difficult time.
