Meet the team working for the BGA on a day to day basis, the Board and Advisory Committee

The Team:

David Lindars, Operations Manager

David has spent the last 33 years working in the retailing, manufacturing, hotel & hospitality sector and most recently at the British Meat Processors Association. Most of David’s career has been leading teams of food safety professionals that looked after the technical, food safety and legal affairs for Tesco, Budgens, Londis, ABP, Foyle Food Group, Vion and Whitbread.

Louisa joined the team at the end of August and brings with her a wealth of administration skills. Having grown up in the heart of the Herefordshire countryside she is passionate that country pursuits are incorporating the latest developments in their field, to create a sustainable future for all. Louisa is excited to join a cause she believes so strongly in.

The Board:

The BGA board is made up of commercially minded individuals who have relevant business experience, aiding us to meet our objectives. All have a deep passion for our sport and its future, they have given their time, efforts and resources pro bono for the good of the sport and for that we are hugely grateful.

Ivan Shenkman, Chairman

Ivan set up upmarket food wholesale company London Larder in 1980 and sold it to Brakes in 1992. He then founded PSL which grew to be the UK’s largest food purchasing consultancy working with over 2,000 clients throughout the UK. In 2016 he sold PSL to global player Sodexo who are seeking to roll out the PSL concept across Europe and beyond. He remains on the board.

Alan Beynon, Board Member

Alan founded the game bird division of St David’s Veterinary Group in 1994, where he’s now MD.  He was an early advocate for preventative medicine, such as improving the rearing and releasing conditions of poults, rather than simply treating disease once it occurred. His wealth of knowledge of the game industry and the respect he commands from it is unrivalled.

Charles McVeigh, Board Member

Charlie joined the BGA from the start because of his passion and deep concern for our communities future. His extensive experience in the financial world will ensure the BGA is steered in the right direction and financially sound. He is Chairman of Citigroup’s Investment Bank-Private Bank Partnership. He presently serves on the Boards of Countryside Alliance. Charlie is ardent supporter of the countryside and shooting in particular.

Simon Chantler, Board Member

Simon Chantler is a co-founder and Chairman of Meadow Foods, the largest independent manufacturer of added value dairy ingredients supplied to food manufacturers in the UK. A former dairy farmer, and currently a Trustee of the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust, Simon is passionate about all things to do with country sports, in particular shooting, in which he has been involved for all of his life

Richard Britten-Long, Board Member

Richard is a lifelong game conservationist. He is a director of Brooke East Africa and sits on the finance committee of the Organisation. He runs a small family shoot in in Worcestershire. Now almost fully retired as a property financier, he was Chairman of Cirencester Park Polo Club, now a vice president. He is a Steward, (Director) of the Hurlingham Polo Association and chair’s that body’s International Committee.

Advisory Committee:

The Advisory Committee is made up of shooting organisations and regional shoot owner representatives to ensure the BGA is in touch with the shooting communities needs and feedback.
